The community clinic services are open to the public by appointment only. Please check our webpage for further details. We are continuing to follow best practice with mask wearing (unless exempt), hand sanitisation and social distancing. We request that owners wait in the clinic reception whilst their animals are being treated or examined. Our rehoming process remains the same, with some minor changes, which you can read about here. We are now arranging collection adoption appointment visits at Mayhew, instead of the previous home drop-offs. Our shop and reception remain closed to the public until further notice. Whilst certain lockdown restrictions ease and shops begin to reopen from 12 April, Mayhew’s shop and reception at our Home in Kensal Green will continue to remain closed to the public until further notice.

Our outpatient neutering services have resumed.

Currently, we’re only able to offer outpatient neutering appointments to dogs as our Vet team are working through a backlog of unneutered feral, stray and community cats. With neutering services on hold last year due to the pandemic, we’ve seen a surge in kitten births from unneutered females, an increase in abandoned cats and kittens and an increase in the numbers of feral and stray cats in London. As always, the safety and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers and service users is paramount, and so following the new lockdown measurements from January 5 2021, we have made some changes to our services:

• We have made some changes to our adoption process. Please take a look here to find out how these may impact you before applying to adopt one of our animals.
• We have had to suspend our outpatient vet clinic services for members of the public until further notice. We continue to adhere to guidelines from BVA and RCVS in order to keep you and our staff safe. We remain committed to continuing our welfare work during this pandemic.
• We have suspended our physical TheraPaws visits.

We are currently looking for volunteer kitten family (mother cat and kittens) foster carers, and are accepting applications via email until we have filled these available volunteer roles. If you meet the criteria, which you can find out about here, please send an email to [email protected]. Please note that we cannot accept applications if you are currently classed as vulnerable or have been advised by the NHS to shield during this time.

In line with updated guidance from DEFRA, CFSG and BVA, Mayhew will be continuing intake and adoption procedures and provision of treatment essential for maintaining animal health and welfare in accordance with Covid-19 secure requirements. Following guidance from DEFRA, CFSG and BVA, we will only be rehoming animals to households within an hours drive of Mayhew.

The clinic team have been continuously reviewing the service provision that we are able to offer in light of the current pandemic. Vaccination clinics have been increased to Tuesday mornings, Thursdays and Saturdays by appointment only. We are only accepting card or contactless payments. Additional information for attending the clinic and Covid-19 measures will be given at the time of booking.

Flea and worming products, for animals registered with us and seen in the last year, can be ordered through our reception team and either posted or collected from the clinic at a designated time or at a vaccination appointment.

Unfortunately, suspension of our outpatient neutering services remains in place. Please see our clinic neutering page for additional information and advice.

We continue to provide in-house veterinary care to the resident animals, those on foster and our Animal Welfare Officer cases.

From the week starting 7 July, we will be trialling a slow return to some physical TheraPaws visits, in certain locations only where appropriate precautions can be followed. We will be reviewing the success of this trial, and the virtual visits, later in summer.

The clinic team have been continuously reviewing the service provision that we are able to offer in light of the current pandemic.

In addition to providing in-house veterinary care to the resident animals, those on foster and AWO cases, we are now in a position to further extend our services.

From Monday 29 June, we are restarting a limited and carefully managed vaccination service for outpatients. These clinics will run all day on Saturdays and all day on Thursdays, initially for 4 weeks, at which point we will review. The appointments have been set up to allow us to carefully manage responsible social distancing and permit adequate cleaning time between consults. Clients will be given a strict arrival time and only one member of the public will be permitted in the clinic waiting room at any one time.

In addition, we have now launched a flea and worming delivery service via a third party. This is only available to clients and their pets whom have been seen at either a vaccination or neutering appointment in the past year. All enquiries should be directed to the clinic phone number or email address for further advice.

At this time, we are unable to permit clients to collect flea and worming products from the clinic.

Due to ongoing social distancing measures and with the cancellation of Hampstead Heath’s Give It A Go Festival, we regret to inform you that this year’s Hounds on the Heath scheduled to take place Sunday 5 July has been cancelled.

We have also made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Open Day, which was originally set to be postponed until a later September date.

Having received guidance from the government and the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH), we will be restarting our dog and cat adoptions with a few changes to our usual process. Please see our new process here.

Our Veterinary Clinic are pleased to announce that we will be trialling a limited delivery service of flea and worming treatments for existing clients living close to Mayhew. We are unable to post any medication. This will be a delivery service in person. To register your interest please email [email protected] with your full name, address and pet’s name.

Thank you for the many generous offers to drop off donations such as food and blankets during this time. Unfortunately we are unable to accept items either being dropped off or posted at the current time for the health and safety of our core team on-site.

We are now further limiting all our services, in line with government advice, to protect our people and the public, and ensure we are focusing our resources on keeping the animals in our care safe and well. This includes:

• Postponing all adoptions from today.
• For those following Benji’s case, we are continuing to consider all the options coming into the dedicated inbox [email protected] and conducting telephone interviews where possible.
• Restricting the situations our Animal Welfare Officers will physically respond to from today. Instead the team are available for remote advice on [email protected]
• We have been overwhelmed with generous offers to assist with fostering our animals, and are now suspending foster carer applications until further notice.

• As of today, Monday 23 March 2020 there will be no physical adoption viewings of animals in foster homes.
• From Tuesday, 24 March 2020, the main reception will be closed (unmanned) until further notice.
• Mayhew Georgia has suspended its TVNR programme in Tbilisi from 23 March 2020 until further notice.

Following the advice of the UK government, we have made the difficult decision to postpone ‘An evening with Jane Fallon’ until later in the year. A new date will be announced as and when we have further information.

We are currently assessing options in regard to the upcoming Mayhew Open Day event and will make an announcement as soon as a decision has been made.

As of Monday 16 March, Mayhew will be making the following changes to our operations in order to protect our staff, volunteers and service users. These amendments will be put in place to ensure we can continue to care for the animals in residence.

As always, the safety and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers and service users is paramount, and we are taking any and all necessary steps to ensure their ongoing health and safety. We have made the decision to temporarily suspend some elements of our TheraPaws programme in order to help protect those most at risk – including elderly and vulnerable service users inside hospitals, hospices, day centres and care homes. We will also be suspending all general tours of the Home until further notice.

We will keep you all informed about any changes to any of our other frontline services in due course, and we hope to re-establish TheraPaws in full as soon as possible, as we know it will be missed by many. We are grateful to everyone for their patience and understanding throughout this period.

We have also implemented the recommendations of Public Health England across our Home, and will continue to ensure that all our animals are being well cared for at all times. All staff members are being extra diligent in terms of self-care and personal hygiene, and are encouraged to self-isolate and call 111 if they experience symptoms, visit a high risk Category 1 zone, or come into contact with anyone they know or suspect may have the virus.
